Saw that story on /. today. I'm beginning to wonder if maybe Gates is just getting to old for this business. He just doesn't seem to 'get' it anymore. People don't want computers making decisions for them. I cannot imagine anyone being satisfied with a TV that decides what they want to watch for them. I'm not an automaton, I am capable of making decisions about what I like, do not treat me like a child. Fucking idiot anyway... tablet PCs my ass.

I agree...it would just be annoying to have your computer start doing things on its own. There's no way it's always going to know what I want to do, which would mean you'd have to redirect it anyway. I agree with him to a certain degree about DVDs becoming obsolete eventually, but I think we will always want some portability to our music and movies...not just have them downloaded to our computer/television.
I read an interesting comment on /. about this story about CDs being overtaken. It was basically about how the CD medium has a cost in cents per disc. Solid state media and hard disks are still in the double-digit dollar amounts. It'll be interesting to see how far the prices can drop and how much people are willing to pay for the ease of use.
